You’ve probably seen the ads before, “Spa Expo – In-town This Weekend Only!!” These type events usually come through town a few times a year, and drop a ton of money on advertising and promotion for their one-weekend only event. They’re huge events, usually taking place at large venues like Cloverdale Agriplex, Surrey, BC, or other large arenas.
Let us be the first, or thirtieth, to explain to you how these events are a SCAM and shouldn’t be attended!
- Multiple Brands are NOT present
Although they promise “multiple brands competing for your business”, they are in fact, all from the same brand and only one hot tub retailer represents them all. You won’t see household name-brands or our competitors at these events because we aren’t invited (even if we were, we wouldn’t go). When the sales reps say that there’s different brands at the event, he’s lying. All of the options at these event are manufactured by one company.
- Can’t Try the Hot Tubs
Due to this being a one-weekend only event, the expo hall will be full of hot tubs, spa and swim spa options, but you won’t be able to try any out because they won’t be there the next weekend. And of course, just like when buying a car, trying a hot tub before buying is incredibly important.
- High-Pressure Sales
The sales representatives at these events use extremely high-pressure sales tactics because they don’t get commission unless they sell the hot tub that weekend. These reps are trained to get your money on the spot, without care for your experience with their product.
- No Recourse for Service/Maintenance/Warranty Issues
These events don’t offer customers any outlet for service, maintenance or warranty issues. They don’t have local stores, so they can’t help you if you have a problem.
It’s important to be aware of the deception tools and tricks these companies use to swindle customers. Spa Expo is not a new phenomenon. In fact, they have a storied past – Every time they come through town they’re successful due to there being so many ill-informed people. Hot tub shopping should never be rushed. The purchase is a major home improvement investment that will be a part of your life for 10, 15, sometimes 20 years, so it’s important that you’re completely satisfied with your purchase.
Instead of visiting these high-pressure events, consider visiting a local hot tub store instead for a personal experience and full-accountability. Shopping with BC Home Leisure means full peace-of-mind for all of your home leisure products.
